The Medical Spa and Clinical Aesthetics

Without question, technology has advanced patient care. Like every other aspect of health care, the practice of aesthetic surgery has benefited from such advancements. Of note are the many procedures, techniques and services that can be offered non-invasively in the Medical Spa setting. At Aestique, we call these services clinical aesthetics.

Clinical aesthetics are those services provided by licensed medical or clinical care- providers. In the Spa at Aestique®, on any given day, this team might be comprised of physicians, nurses, physician assistants, estheticians, massage therapists, hand and foot care specialists, reflexologists, aromatherapists, and an array of other certified personnel dealing with specialized interventions.

Clinical interventions in the Spa at Aestique® are undertaken for many purposes. They have been shown to:

  • Improve physical, mental, emotional and spiritual well being
  • Augment pre-operative preparation and post-operative healing
  • Promote circulation
  • Rejuvenate, hydrate and renew the skin
  • Enhance appearance by eliminating premature signs of aging
  • Foster self-esteem
  • Provide relief from stress and tension
  • Encourage relaxation
  • Eliminate developmental and situational stressors
  • Facilitate self-awareness and understanding

While not every person experiences all of these benefits all of the time, most individuals discover a multidimensional “surprise” in engaging in the services offered by clinical care- providers in the Spa setting.

As a plastic surgeon, I find that the treatment of the signs of aging in a non-operative way is effective, timely, safe, and cost-efficient IF – and the IF is a huge factor – your procedures are done in the hands of qualified, appropriately credentialed individuals. As always, I’ll remind you to look for the logos of Board Certified Plastic Surgeons before you engage in any advanced procedure involving your face or your skin! You want to be certain such a surgeon is on the team of providers, consulting with and offering his/her expertise! WHEN you’re in the right hands, eliminating the operating room and having these services in the Spa setting provides a more relaxing environment, making intensive, effective procedures more easily accepted by the Spa guest or client than surgery might be.

Some of the most common non-invasive to minimally invasive, clinical aesthetic procedures carried out in a medical Spa include: medical micro-dermabrasion of the face, décolleté, back, hands, legs, arms and buttocks, botox injections – this is the number one non-invasive treatment in the United States, resurfacing glycolic treatments, and glyderm glycolic hand, arm or back treatments. Dermal fillers, such as Restylane, plump lips and fill in scarred areas, along with making fine-lines disappear immediately upon injection! In addition, unique pre-operative or post-operative services, including camouflage make-up consultation and application or lymphatic massage, can be specifically customized for surgically treated areas of the body.

Expanding the clinical aesthetics concept even further, laser treatments can be used for spider veins, wrinkle management, hair removal or full facial rejuvenation. Intense pulse light (IPL) controls brown discoloration and spider veins on the face and body as well.

With the ever-advancing technological capabilities in the medical field, there is no end in sight for what will continue to become the artful application of truly anti-aging marvels! The medical spa with its team of clinicians is an ideal practice setting for the provision of these life-enhancing services.
